Adventurers

Ages 3.5 – 5

Adventures await within the Forest!

Your child(ren) will spend 4 hours each week adventuring through the Wonder & Awe forest and farm. Hiking an unknown trail. Climbing over boulders. Creating and building with the loose parts found on the forest floor. Digging in the soil. Breathing in the fresh air. Adventuring and playing!

Join Angela, your child’s host and guide, on Thursday mornings from 9am to 1pm in an unhurried rhythm that will awaken your child’s sense of adventure. Children will spend their time outside having fun together while strengthening their bonds to each other and to nature.

Early Fall (September 12th through October 31st) - 8 weeks

Late Fall (November 7th through December 12th) - 6 weeks

Winter (January 16th through March 6th) - 8 weeks

Spring (April 3rd through June 19th) - 12 weeks

Your child will have the opportunity to build friendships with seven other children.

Children will have the opportunity to experience the 6 elements of risky play!

  • Play with Great Heights

  • Play with Rapid Speeds

  • Play with Dangerous Tools

  • Play near Dangerous Elements

  • Rough and Tumble Play

  • “Disappearing or Getting Lost” Play

Children will learn how to assess their “risky play” by completing a self-awareness and self-confidence checklist prior to participating. This will involve asking themselves questions like “do I feel safe?”, “have I practiced enough in other areas so that I am ready for this challenge?” Children will work with Angela to build the necessary skills needed in order to tackle their “risky play” in responsible and safe ways. Angela will be with the children to monitor and “spot” each child as they play!

Areas of Focus

Each weekly session consists of an area of focus, that encourages your child to try something new and build on existing skills. The Areas of Focus will be related to child development.

Unhurried Rhythm

Your child will be able to utilize their time the way they see fit. There will be prompts and invitations provided to them so that they can engage when they are ready, think of it as a “choose your own adventure”. The focus is on learning how to trust their own intuition and while building strong relationships with other children in a natural setting.

Hands-on activities

The activities offered are designed to keep your child engaged and learning, whether it’s learning how to climb a boulder or learning how to choose the perfect walking stick. Children learn best by doing and there will be lots of opportunity for this.

Thought-Provoking Question

Your child will be given a question to think upon and contemplate. They will discuss possible answers, share their opinions and listen to others. The focus is on learning how to think and how to articulate a response to their peers.

Ignite their
adventurous nature

We are adventurous by nature. Help your child discover the joys of going on an outdoor adventure. Give them an opportunity to hike an unknown trail, lift heavy branches to build a shelter, build a campfire and keep it stoked, and learn the difference between a blackberry bush and a salmonberry bush.
